Default v8 swap to I6?

I have a chevy small block 350 atached to a 700r4 trans and i was wondering if i could swap a Inline 6 and a 4 speed trans in it? I know you can swap from a I6 to a v8 but not sure about the other way around.

You shoud be able to. My 65 was swapped from a I-6 to a V8. I used the stock mounts and frame brackets. If going from a manual to an auto matic from a manual you will need to remove the crossmember that the bell housing is bolted to or if your going from an automatic to a manual you will need the crossmember and related clutch parts.

no but i wish i had one to drive! my truck was a 283 & powerglide and i converted it to 350/350... A 4.3 liter engine is a newer v style and not an inline engine both styles make ok tourqe but are not real big on power.. if ya want better gas milage than get fuel injection from a camaro in the early to mid 80s and adapt that to your 350

also s10 weigh around 2700 these trucks weigh like 4100 or somethin like that so the extra weight will make the six banger work harder and use alot of gas

The "Gen III" inline 6 was introduced in 1962. The 250 horsepower moved around depending on year and vehicle, but they were in the 150hp range. Torque was in the 250 range. It's no V8 when it comes to performance, but everybody and their mother has a small block under the hood of their [insert project vehicle here]. If you're trying to race, don't waste your time with the inlnes. You'll spend 3-5x $$$$ to make it go fast as compared to a small block.

I'm planning to swap out my existing 250/350 for a very mild 250 with a 700R4 hanging off the back. Truck came from factory with the classic 3-on-the-tree, but the PO (original owner) swapped in the TH350). However, the stick came with 4.11 gears, so the truck was in D by the end of the driveway. I swapped in 3.42's (I think) with a '71 V8 rearend. I've been driving it like that for nearly a decade, but only in the last couple of years have I done very many highway stints... I need another gear!

yeah well im not lookin to go fast. i have my zx10 for that so whenever i feel the need for speed ill just hop on that. as far as the truck goes as long as it gets good mileage and good driveability im perfectly fine with that.

Good technical info, but I don't see the numbers being significantly different enough to warrant consideration on that basis. Unfortunately, my experience with teh 200R4 is that I chunked 2 of them in a 1988 S-Blazer behind a 2.8 with reasonable highway driving (I have other vehicles to do my "abusing"). OTOH, My experience with the 700R4 is nil... my last few OD units were 4L60's. But the 700R4 is a well understood and well respected design in the transmission world, and I can get an extremely reliable warranted newly built unit for the right price. I just got a bid on the new 250... seems a little steep at $2950... but I don't have any other bids to compare it to yet.

That's not too bad, as long as the body isn't shit. And honestly, check out some old Super Chevy magazines, they got into the whole high horse inline kick when gas was crazy. I wanna say they took a 250 and got around 425hp relatively streetable. Couldn't tell ya for the life of me which month it was, but it's there somewhere. Be different, life's more fun that way.

True your gonna waste more $$ trying to get as much hp as a 350,, but the look on the guy the has a v8 ,getting smoked by an inline six is priceless . Ive seen it happen Oh and about that " dont waste your time with the inlines", u might want to take that back, check this vid out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gex-uUio8Dc
